Bulldogs held off by New Hampshire despite season-best blocking performance

DURHAM, N.H. – The Bryant volleyball team recorded a season-high 10 blocks but fell in three sets to New Hampshire Tuesday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.

COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS
"We had a great night blocking and several opportunities to finish each set that we didn't capitalize on. Kiley Robbins turned in another solid performance, hitting .333 and leading us with 12.5 points in the match. Ally Lunsford hit .364 with three blocks."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – Bryant led 20-17 in the opening set before New Hampshire stormed back on an 8-1 run to win the first. Senior Kiley Robbins (Garland, Texas) had a team-high four kills in the set, while the Bulldogs tallied three blocks.
Set 2 – Bryant posted a .370 hitting percentage in the set but was outlasted by a New Hampshire squad in a back-and-forth frame. Robbins tallied five kills in the set and the Bulldogs added four more blocks.
Set 3 – The Bulldogs trailed 21-18 in the set before kills from Robbins and senior Ally Lunsford (Minneola, Fla.) and a block by junior Grace Richmeyer (DeSoto, Mo.) knotted the set at 21. UNH would respond by scoring the next four points to close out the set and match.

STATS
Robbins led Bryant with 12 kills, good for her second double-digit kill performance in her last three matches.
Junior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) tallied eight kills and eight digs.
Junior Kirstyn Sperry (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 10 digs for her sixth double-digit digs effort of the season.
The Bulldogs notched a season-high 10 blocks, the most since recording 10 vs. Saint Francis U Oct. 22, 2016.

MATCH NOTES
Bryant falls to 3-4 all-time vs. New Hampshire.
The Bulldogs drop to 13-18 against America East members in the Division I era, but are 4-2 since the start of 2016.

Bryant returns home for this weekend's Hampton Inn-vitational at Chace Athletic Center against Manhattan, Stony Brook and Brown. The Bulldogs' first match is slated for Friday at 4 p.m. vs. Manhattan.
