Bryant hosts Hampton Inn-vitational Friday and Saturday at Chace Athletic Center

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University volleyball team returns home to host Manhattan, Stony Brook and Brown this weekend for the Hampton Inn-vitational at Chace Athletic Center.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs return home after playing seven of eight on the road to begin 2017. Bryant fell in three sets last time out Tuesday at New Hampshire. Senior Kiley Robbins (Garland, Texas) had a team-high 12 kills in the defeat, while the Bulldogs had a season-high 10 blocks.
  • Junior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) leads the Black and Gold through eight matches with 2.91 kills per set. Freshman Erika Ward (Rochester, Mich.) has tallied a team-high 4.54 digs per set and was named Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week for the season's first week Aug. 28.
  • The 10 blocks in Tuesday's match at New Hampshire were the most in a three-set match since Bryant tallied 11 in a sweep of Hampton Sept. 17, 2016.
  • Robbins was named to the all-tournament team at last weekend's BC Invitational.

A Bit About Manhattan

The Jaspers enter the weekend searching for their first victory of 2017. Manhattan was downed by Brown, Fairleigh Dickinson and Holy Cross last weekend in Worcester. Erin Hoener leads the Jaspers and the MAAC with a .314 hitting percentage and has tallied 1.91 kills per set. Alyssa Rehrer's 4.92 digs per set rank second in the MAAC.

A Bit About Stony Brook

The Seawolves are 3-5 after a midweek five-set loss to Hofstra. Stony Brook went 2-1 at the Harvard Invitational last weekend, with McKyla Brooks' performance earning her America East Offensive Player of the Week honors. Brooks ranks third in the America East with a .305 hitting percentage and has contributed 2.61 kills per set, while Emily Costello has added 2.87 kills per set.

A Bit About Brown

The Bears went 3-0 in the opening weekend for Ivy League teams with victories over Fairleigh Dickinson, Manhattan and Holy Cross. It marks the first 3-0 start for Brown since 2008. Eliza Grover was named Holy Cross Invitational MVP with a .322 hitting percentage and 2.50 kills per set, while Gabrielle Moriconi chipped in 3.30 kills per set on a .301 htiting percentage.
