Bryant hosts Robert Morris, Saint Francis U in weekend matches

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University volleyball team wraps up the first half of its Northeast Conference schedule with home matches this weekend against Robert Morris and Saint Francis U.

Series History vs. Robert Morris
The Bulldogs are 6-11 against the Colonials, but swept the season series a year ago. The most recent meeting was a five-set victory in Smithfield Oct. 23, 2016, as Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) tallied a career-high 34 kills in the win. 

Series History vs. Saint Francis U
Bryant is 7-10 against Saint Francis U but is 5-3 since the start of 2013. Ally Lunsford (Minneola, Fla.) had 10 kills in both meetings a year ago, which were both four-set Bulldog victories. 

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant is 14-8 on the year and 12-2 since Sept. 8. The Bulldogs lead the NEC at 5-0.
  • The Bulldogs went 2-0 in their first NEC road weekend with a four-set win at Fairleigh Dickinson and a thrilling comeback victory at Sacred Heart to improve on their best start to NEC play since joining the conference.
  • Bryant trailed 24-19 in the third set Saturday before coming back to win the set 32-30 and the match in five sets.
  • Junior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) is averaging 3.57 kills per set in NEC play and leads the team with 3.13 kills per set on the season. Senior Ally Lunsford (Minneola, Fla.) has recorded a team-best .288 hitting percentage.
  • Freshman Erika Ward (Rochester, Mich.) has recorded a team-best 4.03 digs per set on the year and had 22 in last Friday's victory over FDU – one shy of her career-high.
  • The Bulldogs have won 15 straight home matches and are 33-3 at the Chace Athletic Center since the start of 2015. The home winning streak is the sixth-longest in the nation entering the weekend.

A Bit About Robert Morris
The Colonials are 9-11 on the year and 3-2 in the NEC after dropping a pair of matches in Brooklyn last weekend. Emma Granger leads RMU with 3.01 kills per set and a .358 hitting percentage. Allie Yurkovich, averaging 3.64 digs per set, is the only Colonial to play in all 76 sets so far this year. 

A Bit About Saint Francis U
The Red Flash stands at 9-9 and 3-2 in conference play after splitting last weekend with a win over St. Francis Brooklyn and loss to LIU Brooklyn. Kelsey Roush leads Saint Francis with 3.89 kills per set and is hitting .256, while Jenna Veres leads the NEC with 5.67 digs per set.
