Bulldogs take weekend trip to Brooklyn for two NEC matches

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – The Bryant University volleyball team returns to Northeast Conference play with a pair of weekend matches in Brooklyn, as the Bulldogs face St. Francis Brooklyn Friday and LIU Brooklyn Saturday.

Series History vs. St. Francis Brooklyn
The Bulldogs are 18-3 against the Terriers in Bryant's 10-year Division I history. Bryant swept St. Francis Brooklyn in Smithfield Sept. 22, as junior Grace Richmeyer (DeSoto, Mo.) recorded nine kills and six blocks. 

Series History vs. LIU Brooklyn
The Bulldogs are 4-15 against the Blackbirds in the Division I era, but have won two of the last three meetings. Junior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) tallied 18 kills and 13 digs in a five-set win in Smithfield Sept. 23.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant is 16-10 on the year and 14-4 since Sept. 8. The Bulldogs are tied with Central Connecticut for the NEC lead at 6-2.
  • The Bulldogs swept Hartford on the road Tuesday in the Bulldogs' final non-conference match of the regular season. Junior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) recorded 11 kills in the win, while senior Kiley Robbins (Garland, Texas) added 10. Senior Ally Lunsford (Minneola, Fla.) contributed to six of Bryant's 12 blocks in the match.
  • The 12 blocks Tuesday were the fifth-most in a three-set match in Bryant's 10-year Division I history.
  • Flynn is averaging 3.85 kills per set in NEC play and leads the team with 3.33 kills per set on the season. Sophomore Brianna Bruny (Biscayne Park, Fla.) has posted a team-best .279 hitting percentage.
  • Freshman Erika Ward (Rochester, Mich.) has recorded a team-best 3.92 digs per set on the year, while junior Grace Richmeyer (DeSoto, Mo.) has tallied 0.99 blocks per set overall and 1.32 per set in NEC play.

A Bit About St. Francis Brooklyn
The Terriers are 7-17 and 1-7 in the NEC. St. Francis Brooklyn returns home after four straight matches on the road. Aleksandra Gligoric leads the NEC with 4.02 kills per set, while Ally Speweik's .298 hitting percentage ranks third. Angie Speweik leads the Terriers with 3.05 digs per set. 

A Bit About LIU Brooklyn
The Blackbirds stand at 13-9 and 6-3 in the NEC entering Friday's match against Central Connecticut. LIU Brooklyn went 2-2 during its four-match road swing and is a half-match back of Bryant and Central Connecticut. Viktoria Fink leads the Blackbirds with 3.40 kills per set, while Filippa Hansson has posted a team-high .263 hitting percentage. Natalia Rivera ranks second in the NEC with 5.48 digs per set.
