Bryant Opens 2021 at URI Tournament

KINGSTON, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team will travel to Kingston this weekend to take part in the URI Tournament. They will be there along with Holy Cross, Quinnipiac, and the host Rams.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant returns two All-NEC players from last season. Junior outside hitter Emma McGovern was a first team selection, and junior middle blocker Alysa Wright was named to the second team.
  • Multiple Bulldogs come into the season looking to advance on the all-time record books. 
  • Senior outside and opposite hitter Caroline Kennedy ranks in the top five in Bryant's Division I history in career kills, kills per set, and attack percentage. She is also in the top ten in career blocks per set. 
  • Senior middle blocker Haley O'Brien is in the top ten in career total blocks and block assists, and is tied for fourth in solo blocks.
  • Junior setter Mia Cergol is sixth all-time in career assists.

Holy Cross match preview: scouting the Crusaders

  • Holy Cross was 5-6 last season, including finishing second in the Patriot League at 5-5.
  • Player to Watch: Junior hitter Gracyn Benk is the offensive leader among returners. She was second on the team with 88 kills in 2020-21, and led the Crusaders with 10 service aces. She also was fourth on the team with 15 blocks.
  • Bryant is 17-5 all-time against Holy Cross, including a 12-5 record in Division I play.

Quinnipiac match preview: scouting the Bobcats

  • The Bobcats were 3-5 overall last season and 3-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
  • Player to Watch: Senior outside hitter Maggie Baker led the MAAC with 134 kills last season. She was also third on the team in digs and fourth in blocks.
  • Bryant holds a 28-6 all-time record against Quinnipiac, including 13-1 in Division I play.

Rhode Island match preview: scouting the Rams

  • URI finished last season 7-8 overall, but were first in the Atlantic-10 East Division at 6-3. They advanced to the A-10 semifinals before bowing out to VCU.
  • Player to Watch: Senior middle blocker Mariah Paulette finished in the top ten in the A-10 in kills (100) and attack percentage (.277). She also led the Rams with 35 blocks.
  • Bryant will be playing Rhode Island for the 10th time, and the second time as a D1 school. The Bulldogs are 0-9 against the Rams.
