Volleyball Set to Host Bryant Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team will host three schools for the Bryant Invitational tournament this weekend. Brown, Holy Cross, and Boston College will be in town to take part in the four team event.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Alysa Wright earned NEC Player of the Week for her performance in Bryant's 3-0 sweep at URI. She posted 28 kills, a .610 att%, and 16 total blocks. Her .611 att% against URI is the 4th highest for a single match in Bryant's Division I history.

  • Carolina Camacho was named NEC Rookie of the Week after recording 60 assists, 13 digs, and two service aces last weekend.

  • Abby Rae was named an NEC Prime Performer after posting 44 digs and five service aces last weekend.

  • Riley James finished the weekend with 28 kills, 11 service aces, and 29 digs. Her seven aces against Quinnipiac are the second most in a match in Bryant's history.

  • Caroline Kennedy and Emma McGovern led Bryant with 30 kills apiece over the weekend. Kennedy added nine total blocks and McGovern had six.

Brown Match Preview: Scouting the Bears

  • Brown, like the rest of the Ivy League, did not compete in the 2020-21 season. They were 13-10 (5-7 Ivy) in 2019.

  • Player to Watch: Junior outside hitter Sophia Miller was the unanimous 2019 Ivy League rookie of the year and a first team all-conference selection as a freshman. She ranked second in the league in kills per set (3.42) and tenth in digs per set (2.94).

  • Bryant is 7-17 all-time against the Bears, including 3-6 in their Division I history. The Bulldogs' last win over Brown was on Sep. 9, 2017, in Smithfield.

Holy Cross Match Preview: Scouting the Crusaders

  • Holy Cross is off to a 1-3 start this season, including a 3-1 loss to Bryant last Friday at URI. They were 5-6 in 2020-21.

  • Player to Watch: Freshman right side/outside hitter Mia Hofacker registered 26 kills, 14 block assists, 14 digs, and three service aces during the URI tournament.

  • With their win last week, Bryant is now 18-5 (13-5 DI) all-time against the Crusaders, including wins in the last seven matchups.

Boston College Match Preview: Scouting the Eagles

  • Boston College started their season 3-0 after sweeping their home invitational last weekend. They went 6-12 (4-12 ACC) last season.

  • Player to Watch: Grad student and middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu recorded 27 kills, a .377 attack percentage, and 18 total blocks in the BC Invitational. She was a second team All-ACC selection in the spring 2021 season.

  • Bryant is 1-3 all-time against the Eagles, with all four matches coming as Division I opponents. The lone victory came at home on Sep. 11, 2010.
