Bulldogs Trounce Hartford in Final Non-Conference Match

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.- The Bryant women's volleyball team closed out their non-conference slate on Wednesday with a 3-0 sweep of Hartford. The Bulldogs finish 13-7 outside of the America East in the regular season.

Alysa Wright had another strong performance, finishing with match highs of ten kills, four blocks, two aces, a .667 attack percentage, and 14 total points. Riley James also posted double-digit points, while Mia Cergol ran the offense to the tune of 30 assists on 39 team kills.

Coach Garlacy's Comments: "Mia ran a great offense tonight and the middles were outstanding. Alysa was very efficient and Haley was so controlled on covering the short balls. Abby led us on defense and served very tough! It was a great all-around team effort."

How it Happened

Set 1: The two teams split the first eight points before a 5-1 Bryant run forced Hartford into an early timeout. The Bulldogs continued to pull away, extending their lead from four to ten by the end of the set. Four Bulldogs had at least three kills in the first, led by Riley James with four.

Set 2: Bryant dominated the beginning of the second, scoring eight straight points to help mount an early 13-3 lead. Two more 4-0 runs helped the Bulldogs to their second-largest set win this season. Bryant had five aces in the set, with James and Abby Rae each serving two.

Set 3: The Bulldogs used another massive run to open a big lead in Set 3, this time scoring seven consecutive points en route to a 14-5 advantage. Alysa Wright's 5.5 points would help Bryant close the door on the Hawks, as they would go on to win by 13.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Alysa Wright posted ten or more kills for the ninth time this season. The Bulldogs are 9-0 in those matches.

  • Wright's .667 attack percentage was her highest of the season, and the fourth time she's hit over .500 in a match (min. 15 attempts).

  • Riley James posted double-digit points with nine kills and two aces, the fifth time in the last six matches shes scored ten or more.

  • Bryant hit .314 as a team, the third time this year they've hit .300 or better in a match.

What's next: The Bulldogs will play their final regular season road match this Sunday when they travel to New Jersey to face NJIT.
