Bryant sweeps Siena to open Bryant Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant women's volleyball team won its Friday match against Siena in a 3-0 sweep. The Bulldogs open the Bryant Invitational 1-0 and are now over .500 for the first time this season.

Bryant , Siena (25-15, 25-17, 25-15)

COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS

"It's always great to be back at the Chace. We're always very comfortable playing at home. I was pleased with the setters' tempo and how well the middles transitioned to attack. We stayed calm when play got chaotic and served tough; keeping them out of system."

HOW IT HAPPENED (Vs. Siena)

  • Set 1 – Bryant took control of the match early on and got out to a 12-3 lead.  Siena would rally and would shrink the deficit to  3 before Bryant would pull away for good and win the match 25-15. Aubrey Lapour had 5 kills in the set. Arianna Ugolini and Josie Deluga each had service aces. 

  • Set 2 – Siena would jump out early in the second set before Bryant came back to tie at 4. The Bulldogs would then rattle off 5 straight points which included 3 kills from Morgan Smith and 2 from Lea Mackey. Mackey would collect another 2 kills in the set as Bryant would go on to win 25-17 

  • Set 3 –The Bulldogs and Saints would go back and forth in the deciding set before Bryant would start to pull away and make the score 9-5 thanks to back-to-back kills from Ugolini and Smith. Lapour would tally another 4 kills in the 3rd and Madison Koeller would put up 6 assists. Bryant would win the set 25-15.

STATS

  • Aubrey Lapour led the way for Bryant with 12 kills in the match; hitting .500.

  • Bryant posted more than double Siena's total kills (46-22)

  • Olga Sawinska led the Saints with 11.5 points.

  • Josie Deluga posted 10 digs along with 7 assists.

MATCH NOTES

  • Arianna Ugolini records her second straight double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs .

  • Carolina Camacho has collected double digit assists in all five matches this season with 15 vs Siena.

The Bulldogs will return to action tomorrow where they will face off against Lafayette at 1:00 PM and Northeastern at 7:00 PM.
