Bryant welcomes UMBC for Dawg Showdown at the Chace

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team will host the Retrievers from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County this Friday night at 7:00 PM in the Chace Athletic Center.

Series History:

  • The Bulldogs are 1-3 lifetime against UMBC and are 1-0 at home. Bryant most recently squared off against the Retrievers in last year's America East Semi Finals where they fell in four sets.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Three Bryant players took home America East awards last week. Arianna Ugolini took home the America East player of the week title after helping lead Bryant to a 2-0 week while racking up 24 kills, a .436 hitting pct, and 11 digs. Josie Deluga won Defensive Specialist of the Week after commanding a defense that held opponents to only hitting .087. In Bryant's last match vs Le Moyne, she recorded 19 digs and held the Dolphins to a -.018 hitting pct. Brookelyn Talmadge was the final award recipient; winning America East Rookie of the Week. In Sunday's showdown against Le Moyne, she totaled 11 kills and a .400 hitting pct while also assisting in 4 blocks.

  • The Bulldogs enter conference play leading in every overall offensive and defensive category in the America East.

  • Aubrey Lapour ranks 15th in the NCAA for kills this season with 222. 

  • Arianna Ugolini and Carrina Barron each have cracked the NCAA top ten for aces so far this season. Ugolini sits in 6th place with 32 aces while Barron is tied for 7th with 31.

  • The Black and Gold enter the weekend on a two match win streak and are 4-2 at the Chace this season.

 

Scouting the Retrievers

  • UMBC will return to play Friday after nine days off following a mid-week loss to No.8 Pitt.

  • The Retrievers have taken home the AMerica East title for the past three seasons.

  • Graduate Student Karmani Conteh leads the team in kills with 158 and a 3.76 k/s

  • Junior Michela De Marzi leads in blocks with 38 total. Mila Ilieva (35) and Kamari Conteh (32) have posted 30+ blocks as well.

  • Freshman Hannah Howard is the team's leader in digs this year with 174.
