Black shines at Monmouth Invitational

HOLMDEL, N.J. – A career-best seventh-place finish for sophomore Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) paced the Bryant University cross country team's at the 17th annual Monmouth Invitational Saturday.

After setting personal-bests in time and finish last week in the Bryant Invitational, Black ran one of the best races of her collegiate career against a field of 157 runners. Her seventh-place finish tops the 13th place finish from the first race this year, and her time of 18:44 left her just three seconds shy of a top-five finish. Junior Megan Robertson (Sewell, N.J.) was the second Bulldog to cross the finish line, placing 76th with a time of 21:10. Sophomore Lauren Ganim (Trumbull, Conn.) cut four seconds off her time from last week, finishing 86th. Her time of 21:21 is a career-best.

On the men's side, junior David Hurley (Ashaway, R.I.) finished 24th out of 143 runners to pace the Bulldogs. He finished with a time of 27:35 in the 8K race. After leading the Bulldogs last weekend, senior Ryan Busby (Derry, N.H.) was the second to cross the line this week, finishing 29th with a time of 27:42. Sophomore Christopher Chapruet (Danvers, Mass.) placed third on the Bulldogs with a time of 28:52.

Both the men and women finished 10th in the first scoring race of the season. East Stroudsburg won the men's race with a team score of 63, and Quinnipiac claimed the women's title with a score of 43.

Bryant travels to New Britain, Conn., next Saturday, Sept. 24, to compete in the Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University.
