Women's cross country earns NEC Fall Sportsmanship
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's cross-country team earned the 2018 Fall Sportsmanship Award as announced by the Northeast Conference office on Wednesday.
The women's cross-country team had a solid fall season finishing ninth in the NEC and 35th at the NCAA Northeast Regionals. The Bulldog squad had no seniors and was led by junior captain, Breann Campise (Tolland, Conn.). Campise was among the top three Bryant runners in every race posting a personal-best 20:12.5 at the Ted Owens Invitational.
The Black and Gold also showed off young talent this year as freshmen Julia Ayres (Collegeville, Pa.) and Sarah Freeman (Merrimac, Mass.) were also top runners for the Bulldogs as both were placed on the Northeast Conference All-Rookie Team. Freeman broke through as a top runner finishing first among the Bryant team at the Vermont Fall Foliage where the rookie ran the 5K race with a time of 20:29.2. Ayres followed after Freeman becoming the top Bryant finisher during the CCSU Mini Meet and then again at the NEC Championship finishing 48th with a time of 20:42.6 as Campise ran closely behind in the 49th spot just eight seconds behind.
