Woods, Lowe lead Bryant past Mount, 9-1

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Collin Lowe struck out nine over 7.0 scoreless innings and Matt Woods homered twice and finished with four hits as the Bryant University baseball team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 9-1, on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs have now won six-straight Northeast Conference games, improving to 9-7 with the win.

Lowe posted his second-straight dominant start, striking out nine over 7.0 scoreless innings. He scattered five hits and didn't allow a walk for the second-straight start. Lowe has struck out 19 and tossed 13.0 scoreless innings over his last two starts.

Woods continued his torrid offensive stretch, going 4-for-6 with a double, two home runs, two RBI and three runs scored. Alex Lane collected three hits, while Derek Smith and Carmine Petosa each finished with two hits. Petosa hit his second home run of the year.

Key Moment

  • Four of Bryant's first five hitters singled to start the game. A fielder's choice made it 2-0, more than enough for Lowe.                                     

How it Happened

  • Bryant opened the game with three-straight singles to load the bases. After a fielder's choice, Smith flared an RBI over the head of the shortstop to make it 1-0. Logan Allen then beat out a potential inning-ending double play to score the second run.
  • Woods then hit a long solo home run to right field to make it 3-0 in the second.
  • Bryant extended its lead with single runs in the fifth and sixth. In the fifth, Allen was hit by a pitch, stole second, advanced to third on a single and scored on a safety squeeze from Tommy DiTullio. Lane brought home Woods (2B) with an infield single in the sixth.
  • The Black and Gold plated three runs in the seventh with a pair of home runs. Petosa launched a two-run shot and Woods hit his second home run of the day.
  • Matt Smith's RBI double closed the Bryant scoring in the ninth.

  • Woods posted his team-leading 18th multi-hit game of the year.
  • Woods also hit his sixth and seventh home run of the season and his 15th double of the year. He has 102 total bases on the year and is hitting .408 with 33 RBI and 31 runs scored.
  • Tuccillo saw his on-base streak come to a close at 21 games.
  • Lane posted his fourth-straight multi-hit game. He's 10-for-17 during the stretch. He also picked up his 45th RBI of the year.
  • Petosa had two hits and hit his second home run of the year.
  • Lowe earned his fifth win of the year with 7.0 scoreless innings. He didn't walk a batter and struck out nine.
  • Lowe has now struck out 19 and not walked a batter over his last 13.0 innings.
  • Jackson Harrigan tossed the last 2.0 innings, striking out three.
