Bryant visits Brown Tuesday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant baseball team wraps up it season series with in-state rival Brown on Tuesday afternoon in Providence. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m. at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.

Probable Starting Pitchers 

Tuesday - Toby Scheidt vs Christian Keel

  • Scheidt is slated to make his first career start after appearing in 22 games out of the bullpen during his time in Smithfield.
  • This season, he is 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA in seven appearances (8.2 innings). Scheidt has allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits, walked four and struck out 10.
  • Scheidt earned his win with a scoreless inning of relief vs Maine.
  • Keel is making his first start of the year as well. He is 1-1 with a 10.50 ERA in 12.0 innings. Keel struck out two in an inning of relief vs Bryant earlier this year.

Bryant vs. Brown

  • Bryant owns a 19-7 lead in the all-time series with Brown. The Bulldogs swept the Bears three weeks ago, winning 17-8, 3-2 (10) and 6-3.
  • The Bulldogs have won five straight and 12-of-13 against the Bears. 
  • Bryant hit .318 as a team and collected 11 doubles in the earlier series. Bryant pitchers struck out 22 and issued just nine walks.
  • Gavin Noriega led Bryant with six RBI, while Chris Einemann hit .545 (6-11) with four runs scored. 

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant enters the weekend 15-10 overall following a weekend sweep of UMBC. The Bulldogs are 14-3 since starting the year 1-7.
  • The Bulldogs are 8-3 in one-run games this season. Bryant had a string of six-straight one-run games snapped in the series finale vs UMBC.
  • Bryant went 14-6 in March, tying the 2019 and 2013 teams for the second-most March wins in DI program history.  
  • Carmine Petosa has reached safely in all 25 games this season and his on-base streak sits at 28 dating back to last year. The streak is the longest by a Bulldog since Jake Gustin reached safely in 33-straight spanning the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
  • Justin Hackett enjoyed a strong weekend vs UMBC, going 6-for-10 with five runs scored. He is now hitting .276 with a team-high six doubles. 
  • Brandyn Durand has reached safely in 10 straight games and is hitting .262 with five doubles, five home runs and seven stolen bases.

Scouting the Bears

  • Brown is coming off its first series victory over Harvard since 2009, winning the finale 20-12 on Sunday. 
  • The Bears are led by Gunner Boree who's hitting .358 with six doubles.
  • DJ Dillehay and Mika Peterson are tied for the team lead with 19 RBI.
