FULL GAME NOTES

TODAY AT ALFOND STADIUM

Off to their first 2-0 start since the 2010 season, the Bulldogs travel to Orono, Maine, to face an undefeated Black Bears team at Alfond Stadium. Saturday's contest is the 2013 home opener for Maine.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS

Maine is coming off a huge 24-14 victory over FBS-member Massachusetts last Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The victory over an FBS school is the second in school history for the Black Bears (9-7 over Miss. St. in 2004). Maine put up 514 yards of total offense and held the Minutemen to just 64 yards on the ground.

Winner's of four-straight games dating back to last season, the Black Bears return a veteran team in 2013. Maine returns 17 starters to a team that finished 5-6 overall and 4-4 in the CAA a year ago. Among those back are senior quarterback Marcus Wasilewski, senior tight end Justin Perillo, senior running back Rickey Stevens, senior defensive end Michael Cole and senior defensive back Kendall James. Wasilewski threw for 2,364 yards and 21 touchdowns and also rushed for 420 yards as a junior. Perillo is a preseason First Team All-CAA selection after catching 30 passes for 271 yards and five touchdowns.

Cole is the key cog in a defense that ranked 16th in the country in scoring defense last year, allowing just 19.5 points per game. He missed the final five games of the 2012 season but is fully healthy and needs just 5.5 sacks to break the all-time Maine record in that category. Clay had an outstanding junior year that included a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown against Bryant.

INSIDE THE SERIES

Bryant and Maine will be meeting for the third time on Saturday. The Black Bears have won both previous meetings, including a convincing 51-7 decision last year at Bulldog Stadium. Maine put up 581 yards of total offense, while holding the Black and Gold to just 12 first downs and 186 yards of total offense. Rickey Stevens rushed for 168 yards and the Black Bears returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns.

DEPADUA HAS STELLAR DAY FOR BLACK AND GOLD

Sophomore wide receiver Jose Depadua (Hagerstown, Md.) scored a pair of touchdowns on Saturday to help the Bulldogs defeat Assumption. In the first quarter, he picked up a blocked punt at the Greyhounds 35 and raced into the endzone to put the Black and Gold on top, 7-0. In the second quarter, he hauled in a Mike Westerhaus (Farmingville, N.Y.) pass in the endzone for a 20-yard touchdown to push the Bryant lead to 21-0. Depadua now has two touchdown receptions on the year and three total touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs in scoring.

HARRIS INCHING CLOSER TO RECORD

Senior Jordan Harris (Lincoln University, Pa.) had a slow day last Saturday, hauling in four passes for just 69 yards vs. Assumption. It was, however, enough to move him into second place all-time in the NEC in career receiving yards. Harris passed Sacred Heart's Steve Tedesco, Wagner's Chris Turner and Monmouth's Miles Austin to move into second place with 2,900 yards. He now stands just 564 yards away from tying Michael Caputo for the most receiving yards in league history.
