Yale tops Bryant, 3-2, Friday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In the third Ivy League matchup of the season, the Bryant University field hockey team fell to Yale, Friday night in New Haven.

The Bryant Bulldogs (1-6) took a 2-0 lead over the Bulldogs of Yale (2-2), with the second goal coming just 75 seconds after.

The Black and Gold were first on the board, when junior Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.) found her seventh goal of the season off an assist from freshman Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.) in the 17th minute. The score marks Danby's sixth-straight game finding the back of the cage.

In the 18th minute, Perryman notched a goal of her own, putting Bryant up 2-0, confirming a total of three points for her in the game.

Yale responded to Bryant's lead with three-straight goals. Carol Middough cut the lead in half, going unassisted in the 21st minute. Just before the end of the first period, Marissa Medici found Evagelia Toffoloni for Yale's tying goal. The final goal came in the 52nd minute, when Middough notched her second of the night and third of the game for the Bulldogs, resulting in the 3-2 Yale final.

Bryant finished with seven of 17 shots on frame, while Yale rattled off 7 of 16 attempts on net.

Freshman goalie Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa.) tallied four saves on the game, while Yale keeper Emilie Katz totaled five.

The Black and Gold return to action in their final Ivy League matchup on the road against Dartmouth on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m.
