Bulldogs battle Crusaders Friday night in Worcester

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After a tough loss to Maine last Saturday, the Bryant University field hockey team looks to bounce back in Worcester on Friday night against Holy Cross.

During nonconference play, the Bulldogs (2-8-0) have been dealt a handful of close loses, including two overtime defeats this season. Regardless, the Black and Gold have been successful in finding the back of the cage, scoring 18 goals in 10 games.

The Bulldogs' attack is led by forward Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.). who has recorded nine goals and two assists. Senior captain Bronwyn Walton (North Vancouver, B.C.) has also supported the Bulldogs' offensive efforts, totaling nine points off three scores and three helpers.

Freshman Marissa Elizardo (New Wales, Pa.) has appeared in net for the Bulldogs in the last eight games, logging 46 saves.

Classmate midfielder Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.) has been an asset to the Black and Gold, recording her second career goal in the 2-1 victory over Vermont (Sept. 25), while also tallying three assists and 17 shots on the season.

The Crusaders (5-5, 1-1 Patriot League) are undefeated in Worcester, beating Colgate, 4-1, in their most recent home match. Since then, the Crusaders have dropped their last two games to Quinnipiac and American on the road.

Holy Cross has a trio of players that have reached double-digit total points, including Maureen Connelly with 14, highest goal scorer (6) Emily Loprete with 13 and Lauren Ineson with 10.

Goalie Megan Inch has received all 10 starts for the Crusaders, accumulating 36 saves and 18 goals against.
