Bulldogs fall to Holy Cross, 2-1, in overtime Friday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In the first two minutes of play, freshman Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.) put the Bryant University field hockey team on the board, but it wasn't enough, falling short to Holy Cross, 2-1, in overtime on Friday night.

The freshman midfielder scored her third goal of the season, finishing into the cage from the right side of the circle for the Bulldog (2-9) score.

The Crusaders (6-5) were able to respond within minutes, when Michelle McNeil found Emily Loprete for the one-timer into the left side of the net.

After a scoreless second half, the match went into overtime, where Holy Cross was able to capitalize on a penalty corner opportunity. Off the set play, Haley Makuh fired off a shot and Maureen Connelly was there for the tip in to score the Crusaders' game-winning goal.

Freshman keeper Marissa Elizardo (New Wales, Pa.) and Crusaders' goalie Megan Inch each finished with seven saves.

Perryman led the Bulldogs' attack, landing three of three shots on frame, while Holy Cross' Connelly placed four of five shots on target.

Junior Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.) tallied a pair of attempts, firing one on net for the Black and Gold. Classmate Jessica Fleet (Londonderry, N.H.) had a similar performance, locating one of two attempts on goal.

The Bulldogs return to action next Friday, October 9 at 3:30 p.m., when they travel to take on Quinnipiac.
