Bulldogs drop final match, 2-0, against Hawks Sunday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team wrapped up their 2015 campaign at home, falling to first-place Monmouth, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (3-16, 1-5 MAAC) and the Hawks (8-10, 5-1) alternated momentum throughout the first half, each earning scoring opportunities, but it was Monmouth who was able to capitalize in the 27th minute.

A Hawks' pass was broken up in the circle by a Bulldog defender, sending the deflection straight to Monmouth's Meg Donahue, who took one touch and ripped a shot low into the cage.

Nearly a minute later, Donahue dribbled right side into the circle and crossed a pass in front of the cage, where Cori Allen was there to finish, putting the Hawks up, 2-0, which would hold as the final score.

Senior Bronwyn Walton (North Vancouver, B.C.) led the Bulldogs with two of three shots on goal, while the team placed six of 12 on frame. Sophomore Anna Kennedy (Macungie, Pa.) added a pair of attempts from the Bulldogs' midfield.

Freshman keeper Marissa Elizardo (New Wales, Pa.) logged four saves on the day, while Hawks' goalie Christen Piersanti recorded six.

The Bulldogs look forward to getting back to work and returning for the 2016 season next fall with high expectations.
