Bulldogs complete comeback, knock off Saint Peter's, 2-1, in dramatic fashion

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Thanks to a pair of goals in the final ten minutes of play, the Bryant University men's soccer team took down Saint Peter's, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Soccer Field.

In dramatic fashion, the Bulldogs (3-4) persevered through a very chippy match which included 36 total fouls and five yellow cards to take down the pesky Peacocks (1-5).

After a goal by Luke Fairlamb in the 25th minute granted the visitors a 1-0 lead into the late minutes of the match, the Black and Gold flipped a switch, igniting a scoring spree consisting of two markers in less than three minutes.

In the 83rd minute, senior Lucas Guerriero (Pickering, Ont.) found fellow countryman Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.) inside the Saint Peter's 18-yard box. After corralling the pass outside the near post, Larocque quickly dished the ball to senior Connor Norat (Wilmington, Del.) who fired a shot past an outstretched David Giddings to knot the match, 1-1.

Just over two minutes later, Larocque made a beautiful run up the right sideline, advancing the ball into the Saint Peter's defensive third. Just outside the box, the junior gifted a beautiful cross to the far post right to the head of freshman Thomas Binder (Vienna, Austria) for the rookie's second score of the year and more importantly the game-winning goal.

Junior keeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) was solid in his return to the lineup, making five saves in the victory after missing a pair of matches due to injury. Giddings stopped the first two Bryant SOG's before allowing two tallies in the final 10 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs, who opened a five-game homestand on Saturday, will play the second of those five matches on Wednesday when they welcome in-state foe URI to Bulldog Soccer Field. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
