Lamar evens the score, Bulldogs tie Colonials, 1-1, Sunday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Jake Lamar (New Haven, Conn.) fires home the tying score for the Bryant University men's soccer team, forcing the match into extra time against Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon.

After the initial shot from sophomore Thomas Binder (Vienna, Austria), Lamar took one touch to his left, allowing him space to fire the ball in from 12-yards out. The captain shot lefty, finishing high into the near side and tying the match at one apiece in the 70th minute of play.

The Bulldogs (3-7-4, 1-2-2 NEC) held the Colonials (9-6-1, 3-1-1 NEC) scoreless until the 67th minute, when Neco Brett headed the ball on, into the Bulldogs' 18-yard box, where Lucas Puntillo ran onto it. Puntillo shot low into the far right side, putting the Colonials up 1-0.

Senior Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) logged six saves, while Colonials' goalie Brenden Alfrey grabbed a trio of saves.

The Black and Gold tallied nine shots, landing four on frame, while the Colonials placed seven of 16 on target.

The Bulldogs return to play on Sunday, Oct. 25, when Fairleigh Dickinson comes to Smithfield for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
