Bulldogs surrender late goal, fall to Brown

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After a good defensive performance in the first half, the Bryant University men's soccer team was not able to duplicate that in the second, and Brown was able to score the game-winning goal in the 75th minute and defeat the Bulldogs 1-0 Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

Coach Purcell's Comments

"Just very disappointed in the players. Nobody did well today. When you come out and play at home, you have to come out with some energy and you have to sustain that throughout the 90 minutes. I thought we did okay in the first half … But we had to come out in the second half and get the ball and play and we didn't. Just was not a good performance today."

Key Moment

  • Brown was able to capitalize on a half hour of pressure they put on Bryant when Nico Lozada crossed to the right side of the box to Austin Lind, who was able to chest it down and fire on net. Senior goalie Nick Stewart (South Windsor, Conn.) was able to stop the initial shot, but Lind was right there for the rebound to put the Bears up for good.

Scoring Summary

  • 75th minute – Brown 1, Bryant 0 – Nico Lozada was able to dance around a couple of Bryant defenders outside the left edge of the box and one-hop a cross to Lind, who controlled nicely and converted on the rebound opportunity after his initial shot was denied.

Stats/Notes

  • Stewart finished the night with four saves.
  • The Bulldogs took exactly three corner kicks for the third consecutive game.
  • Bryant was held scoreless in their first three matches for just the second time in the Division I era.
  • Junior Richard Murray (Essex, England) recorded his first shot of the season in the first minute of the match.
