Bulldogs pick up fourth-straight win over UConn Wednesday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In its home opener, The Bryant University men's tennis team picked up a convincing 6-1 victory over the University of Connecticut Wednesday afternoon at the Bryant Tennis Courts.

The Bulldogs (5-9) looked sharp on Wednesday, winning their fourth-straight match and the fifth in the last six, while the Huskies fall to 2-13 overall on the year.

Bryant got things going in doubles play with the freshman tandem of Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) and Joshua Kliger (Newport Beach, Calif.) knocking off Jacob Spreyer and Chris Toner, 8-2, at the No 1 spot. Seniors Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) and Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua) followed suit, improving to 3-1 overall as a tandem with an 8-4 win over Andrew Ginzberg and Zac McEntee at No. 2 doubles.

Singles play followed a similar trend. Sophomore Oliver Welsh (San Diego, Calif.) picked up his first win at No. 1 singles, topping McEntee, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2, and freshman Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) improved to 14-7 overall in singles action with a win over Toner at the No. 2 spot.

Junior Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) earned his fourth-straight win, defeating Jonathan Edwards at No. 3 singles, while Jorge Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and Richard Sipala (Quogue, N.Y.) secured Bryant's fourth-straight victory over UConn with wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will break from action over the weekend before hosting regional rival Boston University on Wednesday, April 8 at 3 p.m.
