Bryant falls to Montana in opening game of Oregon Duck Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Bryant University softball team fell in its opening game of the Oregon Duck Invitational to the University of Montana Grizzlies, 7-0, at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene on Friday.

KEY MOMENT

  • In the third inning, Montana's Ashlyn Lyons hit a three-run home run to right-centerfield to give Montana a 4-0 lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bryant put runners on second and third with no outs in the first inning but were unable to score after Hood bounced back to record two strikeouts and a groundout.
  • The Grizzlies would plate the game's first run in the top of the second inning. After Montana loaded the bases, Tori Lettus lofted a sacrifice fly to right field. Kolby Deziel (Pasadena, Calif.) threw the ball in to Gabrielle Ermish (Pottstown, Pa.) who fired to third for a double play. The last out occurred just after the run had scored.
  • After Lyons' three-run shot, Montana scored another run on an RBI double in the third inning.
  • Montana scored again in the fourth inning on an infield single by Madison Saacke scored MaKenna McGill from third base.
  • The Grizzlies' final run of the game came in the sixth inning, when Lyons doubled to left center to score McGill.

STATS

  • Freshmen Morgan Powell (Murrieta, Calif.) and Dakota Bilodeau (Milford, N.H.)  and sophomore Marianna Politis (Arcadia, Calif.) each had base hits against the Grizzlies.
  • Junior Kaleigh Goulart (Marion, Mass.) delivered the Bulldogs' only extra base hit, a double in the first inning. The first-inning knock marked Goulart's second-straight game with a two-bagger.
  • Classmate Colby Norris (Toano, Va.) threw four innings in relief, allowing just two runs and striking out three. The three strikeouts are a season-best for Norris.

GAME NOTES

  • Junior Jessica Gradillas (Nogales, Ariz.) drew two walks in the game, setting a single-game career high.
  • Bryant is now 0-1 all-time against Montana. Friday was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
  • The game was Bryant's first-ever in the state of Oregon.
