14 Bulldogs score in 18-4 thumping of Blue Hose, Tuesday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's lacrosse team looked as dominant as it has all season in an 18-4 rout of Presbyterian College on Tuesday afternoon in Clinton, S.C.

The Bulldogs (4-3) were blessed with tremendous balance on both sides of the ball, as 14 players found the back of the net. Senior attack Nicole Britton (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) tallied a goal and two assists to give her 66 career helpers, making her Bryant's Division I assists leader. Freshman attack Meredith James (Essex Fells, N.J.) registered her first two goals of the season and added an assist, while Catlin Brown (San Diego, Calif.), Ali Cardinal (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Jess DeMeo (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) each netted two goals.

Megan Dreyer paced the Blue Hose (2-6) with two points on two assists, as four host players registered scores. Jess Goergen was one of the four Presbyterian players to cage a shot and she tied for a game-best four ground balls.

Sophomore netminders Samantha Santeramo (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Daja Andrews (Lumberton, N.J.) split the two halves, as the former saved five of six shots with the latter turning away three attempts in the second frame.

Bryant opened the game with eight goals in the first 15 minutes and jumped out to a 12-0 lead before Cassie Watters got the Blue Hose on the board at the 2:27 mark. But Kendall McCartney (North Kingstown, R.I.) registered her first goal of the season with nine seconds left to give the visitors a 13-1 halftime edge.

Presbyterian netted two of the first three goals of the second stanza sandwiched around a Jasmine Perkins (West Babylon, N.Y.) goal which was her first of the year. Junior midfielder Olivia Brooks (Auburn, N.Y.) saw her first action of the season in the second frame and it didn't take her long to make an impact, as she joined the goal-scoring party by capping off a 3-0 run to give the Bulldogs a 17-3 lead with 13 minutes to play.

Sophomore attack Christine Kelly (Farmingdale, N.Y.) netted her first score of the season with one second remaining on a free-position attempt to put the finishing touches on Bryant's 18-4 victory.

The 18 goals ties the second-most that the Bulldogs have manufactured in their Division I tenure, and the 14-goal margin is the second-largest win since they joined the DI ranks.

Bryant will now have a week in between games before wrapping up this three-game road trip, as it takes on Siena on Tuesday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m.
