Bryant falls to Colorado, 2-0, Friday in Boulder

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's soccer team dropped a tough, 2-0, decision to the University of Colorado Friday evening in Boulder, Colo.

After the Buffaloes (6-2) scored early in the first half, the Bulldogs (2-7) hung tough with the Pac-12 foe for the majority of the match until Colorado secured the 2-0 victory with its second marker later in the contest.

"We gave up a soft goal early, which was unfortunate," said Bryant head coach Chris Flint. "But we had some really good play from Sarah [Schucker] in the first half, creating chances on the offensive end, but we just couldn't capitalize on our opportunities."

The Buffs took advantage of an early chance in the first frame when Brooke Rice crossed a ball into the ball to Darcy Jerman who collected the ball and fired home her third marker of the season in the fifth minute of the match.

After nearly even play for the next 80+ minutes, Colorado secured the victory taking advantage of Bryant's aggressive formation when Brittney Stark put away her second tally of the season off a quality cross from Carly Bolyard in the 88th minute.

"Overall this was a really good showing against a very talented team," added Flint. "I told the players that this is the type of team that we would see in the first round if we were to play in the NCAA Tournament."

Despite their strong defensive play, the Black and Gold struggled to get things going in the offensive third, firing only a pair of shots in the contest, one apiece from Sarah Schucker (Nanuet, Mass.) and Michelle Durand (Sudbury, Mass.).

Sophomore Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.) stopped six Buff chances in her ninth start of the season, while Kate Scheele stopped both Bryant chances for her sixth win of 2014.

"We'll look to build of this," noted Flint. "We played well but we need to be better in the final third and capitalizing on those chances will be key against Northern Colorado on Sunday."

Bryant will look to come out of its weekend road trip to Colorado at .500 when they take on the Bears Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. EST.
