Bryant competes in URI Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Rested after nearly two weeks away from the pool, the Bryant University men's swimming and women's swimming and diving teams return to action this weekend at the 16th annual Harold Anderson Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island.

The invitational spans two days and begins on Friday, Dec. 2, at 5:00 p.m. at the Tootell Aquatics Center and concludes on Saturday, with finals beginning at 10:30 a.m. Joining the host Rams and the Bulldogs will be Assumption College, the College of the Holy Cross, the University of Maine and Providence College. URI has won the invitational every since 2007.

The last time the Bulldogs were in the pool was two weekends ago when the men competed at the Terrier Invitational and the women battled the University of Vermont in a dual meet. The men finished sixth in the invitational, while the women dropped a 168.5-108.5 decision to the Catamounts.

Both teams have seen their swimmers make tremendous strides over the first month and a half of the season. Nearly every swimmer has produced season-best times within the last two competitions – with the men having registered 24 first-place finishes and the women 33.

Three swimmers will not be available for competition this weekend because of U.S. Nationals. Alex Kosenski (Lavallette, N.J.), Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.) and Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) are all competing in Atlanta, Ga., this weekend in an attempt to qualify for the Olympic qualifying cuts.

This weekend's invitational is the final competition for the men's team this semester. The women will close out their semester by making one more trip to Kingston, R.I., next Saturday, Dec. 10, to face the Rams in a dual meet.
