Torrez claims first victory Saturday vs. UMass

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – First-place finishes from senior Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.), freshmen Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) and Samantha Torrez (Whittier, Calif.) highlighted the afternoon for the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team as it fell to UMass, 162-100, on Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs (4-5) will return to the pool on Sunday as they host NJIT and St. Francis Brooklyn in a tri-meet at the Chace Athletic Center.

On Saturday, DeBever won the 100 free with a time of 54.32 and also finished second in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.55. Poliseno won the 50 free with a time of 25.34 and helped the 200 free relay team to a second-place finish. Torrez won her first career event against the Minutemen, claiming the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.40.

The Bulldogs also received strong performances from sophomores Elisabeth Schauer (Pelham, N.Y.) and Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) and freshman Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.). Schauer finished second in the 200 back with a time of 2:14.49, Doerrman was second in the 200 IM (2:16.85) and Daly was second in the 1000 with a time of 10:53.78.

Sunday's tri-meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be broadcast on necfrontrow.com.
