Bulldogs nip Terriers, 3-0, at home

SMITHFIELD, R.I. –The Bryant University volleyball team, behind its best attack percentage of the 2011 season, earned a weekend split Sunday afternoon, taking a 3-0 sweep over visiting St. Francis (NY) at the Chace Athletic Center.

The .343 team hitting percentage came off 46 kills and just 10 team errors in 105 attempts, as the Bulldogs (7-12, 2-3 Northeast Conference) outmatched the Terriers (1-19, 0-5) in nearly every statistical category, including kills (46-28), blocks (13-4), digs (52-44), and assists (42-26).

Junior setter Jadith Lorenzo (Lawrence, Mass.) led the charge for much of that advantage, knocking down seven kill on just eight attempts for a career-best .875 attack percentage and dishing out a match-high 21 assists with a block and six digs on the afternoon.

Five Bulldogs recorded attack percentages of .300 or better while senior captain Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) led the home side with eight kills and a contest-best four blocks. Sophomore Alexandria Clyburn (Cartersville, Ga.) added seven more kills with a trio of blocks, and served up both of the Black and Gold's aces in the outing.

Kendall Gaffney (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) paced Bryant with 14 digs apiece, and Leigh Fishback (Edmonds, Wash.) picked up 13 helpers.

St. Francis (NY)'s Jayma Copeland led the match with 11 kills, while Naomi Flinders doled out 15 assists and Feliz Ramirez registered a contest-high 18 digs.

The Bulldogs return to action at home on Wednesday, Oct. 5 against Holy Cross (7 p.m.).
