Green to attend NCAA Career Sports Forum

Mary Green to represent Bryant at NCAA National Career in Sports Forum

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – For a third straight year, the Bryant University Athletic Department will be represented at the NCAA National Career in Sports Forum this June in Indianapolis, as dual-sport student-athlete Mary Green (Merrick, N.Y.) was recently selected to take part in the educational forum, Associate Athletic Director Bethany Wandyes announced Monday.

Green, a four-year member of the women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse teams at Bryant, was selected amidst a highly competitive field of student-athletes from all over the country. The senior Business Management major will have the opportunity to learn and explore careers in sports, sports law and sports entertainment – with a primary focus on intercollegiate athletics – during the three-day forum.

“I am extremely excited to see what this forum has in store,” Green said of her acceptance. “I'm privileged to have been accepted out of an extremely competitive applicant pool and cannot wait to learn from this experience.”

The forum will take place on June 7-10 at the NCAA offices in Indianapolis. The forum will market careers in coaching, administration, officiating, sports law and sports entertainment as viable professions. Additionally, the forum is working to dispel myths about careers in athletics, as well as facilitate the opportunity to obtain information from future athletics professionals.

“We are proud of all our student-athletes who applied for this highly competitive and prestigious forum,” Wandyes said. “Each year, Bryant’s representatives praise the Career in Sports Forum as an invaluable opportunity.  We are excited for Mary to attend this June, and we are confident she will represent the best of Bryant as a stellar student, athlete and person.”

Green has spent much of her senior year involved in the department as a student intern, assisting in different facets of the organization throughout the 2011-12 academic year.

“After interning in the athletics department, I have gained a particular interest for potential career options and am so happy I have the chance to learn more about the different opportunities,” Green said.

Until the forum, Green will continue to serve as a leader on the women’s lacrosse team as it enters the final four-game stretch in the 2012 season. Winners of three straight, Green currently ranks third on the squad in scoring with 25 points (17 goals, 8 assists). The Bulldogs will host Saint Francis (PA) and Robert Morris this weekend at the Bryant Track and Turf Complex.
