NEW HAVEN, Conn. -   Luke Cowan pitched seven shutout innings while Paul Novakowski hit his sixth home run of the season as the Bryant University baseball team earned a 4-1 win at Southern Connecticut University Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs, with the win, improve to 12-26 overall on the season and 10-8 in conference play.  Southern Connecticut falls to 22-11 (11-5 NE-10).

Bryant wasted little time jumping out to an early lead on the host Owls as Jason Alexander led off the game with a double to center and moved to third on a Mike Rocco ground out to first.  Novakowki would follow with a home run to left to give the Bulldogs a quick 2-0 lead.

The runs would be all Cowan would need as the sophomore righty held Southern Connecticut to just six hits while striking out five Owl batters before giving way to Adam Vuolo who came on in relief in the eighth.

Bryant would add two more runs in the seventh as Novakowski keyed the rally with a double to left.  Novakowski finished the game 2 for 5 at the plate with two runs scored and pair of RBIs.  Rocco was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

The Bulldogs will travel to Merrimack College for a conference doubleheader on Saturday in North Andover, Mass. before returning back to Smithfield to host the Warriors Sunday at 1 pm.
