Baseball Opens Season With Loss vs, Barry

Bryant Baseball Opens Season with Six Games at Rollins College

WINTER PARK, FLA.  - The Bryant University baseball team opened its season Saturday losing 10-5 to Barry University and 12-9 to Rollins College Saturday on the campus of Rollins College.

In the first game against Barry, Bryant struck first for two in the second inning as freshman T.J. Magnell (Leominster, Mass) got his first collegiate single and RBI, driving home DH Mark Dondero (Medfield, Mass.). 3B Jason Alexander (Simsbury, CT) continued the rally singling home freshman catcher Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, CT) who got his first collegiate hit earlier in the inning.

Barry would break the game open scoring four runs in both the second and third innings, taking an 8-3 lead.

Junior ace Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, CT) got the nod on the hill. He went four innings, allowing eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits. Chris Fondas (Needham, Mass.) relieved him and went three innings, giving up two runs.

In the second game, the Bulldogs scored seven times in the eighth inning to narrow the deficit to Rollins, but they eventually lost 12-9.

Earlier Saturday, Barry shutout Bentley 3-0.

Bryant (0-2) will take on Barry University Sunday at 11 a.m. and Bentley College at 7 p.m.
