Bryant Baseball Defeats Assumption 10-0
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant baseball team continued its excellent job on the hill Wednesday afternoon, shutting out Assumption College 10-0 at a windy Bryant Baseball Complex.
In 36 conference innings this season, the Bulldog pitching staff has surrendered just one run for an earned-run-average of 0.25.
Today's starter, Dan Lozeau (Pelham, NH) hurled seven shutout innings of three-hit ball while striking out five to improve his record to 2-0.
Lozeau got some early run support as LF T.J. Magnell (Leominster, Mass.) scored the game's first run when DH Mark Dondero (Medfield, Mass.) drew a bases-loaded walk after an eight pitch at-bat off Greyhound starter Andrew Quinn.
The Bulldogs made it 3-0 in the second as Magnell's sacrifice fly brought home SS Pat McKenna (Orange, CT), and a two-out clutch single by C Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, CT) plated CF Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.).
After Campbell doubled home McKenna in the fourth, Vigurs followed with another two-out single to score Campbell and give Bryant the comfortable 5-0 lead.
They would cruise from there, scoring one in the fifth and four in the eighth.
Vigurs led the charge offensively, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while McKenna was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Campbell continued his strong start to the season with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring twice, driving home two, and stealing a bag.
Chris Foundas (Needham, Mass.) closed out the game with two solid innings out of the bullpen.
The Bulldogs (11-9, 4-0 NE-10) travel to AIC Thursday (3:30 p.m.) in search of their fifth straight conference win. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Smithfield, but was changed after the Yellow Jackets' field was deemed playable.
