Bulldogs Complete Three-Game Sweep of Pace with 3-0 Victory

Boxscore

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Three Bulldog pitchers combined on a complete-game, three-hit shutout as Bryant completed a big three-game sweep of Pace University with a 3-0 road victory Monday afternoon.

Brent Almeida (Fairhaven, Mass.) (3-3) got the win after pitching 5.1 innings of one-hit ball, while Eric Polvani's (Wallingford, CT) 2.2 innings and Adam Vuolo's (Walpole, Mass.) one inning of shutout ball secured the three-game sweep.

The save was Vuolo's third in as many games, and a conference best eighth of the season.

With the game still scoreless in the fifth, SS Pat McKenna (Orange, CT) delivered a two-out triple to score 3B Jay Alexander (Simsbury, CT) with the game's first run.

McKenna came through again in the seventh, beating out an infield single that brought Alexander home with the game's second run. Then with two outs and LF T.J. Magnell (Leominster, Mass.) at the plate, 2B Dave Muscatello (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch to give the Bulldogs the 3-0 lead.

That was plenty of run support for the trio of Almeida, Polvani, and Vuolo.

Polvani has not been scored upon since march 10, spanning nine games and 19 innings.

With his single in the sixth inning, 1B Mike Rocco (Tewksbury, Mass.) needs five more hits to become the fifth Bulldog to reach 200 career hits. Also, Vuolo needs one more save to tie the single season school record for saves and two more to tie the school career record.

Earlier Monday, Magnell became the fourth Bulldog freshman to be selected as the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week.

The Bulldogs (17-12, 10-3 NE-10) will visit Saint Anselm Tuesday (3:30 p.m.)
