Bulldogs Defeat Bentley 5-2 Friday Afternoon; Vuolo Ties Career Saves Record

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant baseball team got back in the win column Friday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over Bentley College at the Bryant Baseball Complex.

The Bulldogs received two RBIs from 3B Jay Alexander (Simsbury, CT) and SS Pat McKenna (Orange, CT) in the victory.

Alexander also extended his hitting streak to nine games with a 1-for-3 performance.

Luke Cowan (Atlanta, GA) (3-3) notched his third win of the season, as the right-hander went 6.1 innings, while allowing two runs on just four hits. Eric Polvani (Wallingford, CT) relieved him and got Bull Savoy to hit into a double-play on his first pitch to get out of the seventh.

Adam Vuolo (Walpole, Mass.) pitched a scoreless ninth for his 10th save. That gives him 15 career saves, tying a Bryant record.

Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Bryant knotted it up when 2B Dave Muscatello (Hopkinton, Mass.) walked and scored on an error and took the lead in the sixth when Alexander singled home RF Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass.).

They got insurance in the eighth when McKenna rocketed a triple off the left-field wall to bring home pinch-runner Grant Tonelli (Greenwood, CA) and Muscatello.

The Bulldogs (23-12, 16-3 NE-10) take on first-place Franklin Pierce in a doubleheader Saturday in Rindge, NH with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. They will host the Ravens in a big game Sunday at 1 p.m.
