Bulldogs Fall to #9/15 Franklin pierce 7-1 Sunday
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant baseball team dropped a 7-1 decision to #9/15 Franklin Pierce Sunday afternoon at the Bryant Baseball Complex.
CF Vinny Pennell led the way for the Ravens batting 2-for-4 and driving home five runs, including a bases-clearing triple in the second inning that erased a 1-0 Bulldog lead.
Bryant got on the board first as C Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, CT) drilled a two-out single to center that brought home LF T.J. Magnell (Leominster, Mass.).
But that was all Bryant could muster against Ravens starter Alex Szymanski. Szymanski (3-0) threw a complete-game six hitter, allowing just one run while striking out eight.
Bryant starter Brent Almeida (Fairhaven, Mass.) (4-4) allowed four runs in 6.2 innings of work. He walked two and struck out four.
3B Jay Alexander (Simsbury, CT) continued his hot hitting, as he had a single and double, extending his hitting streak to 12 games. CF Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) was 1-for-4, extending his streak to 10 games.
The Bulldogs (23-16, 16-7 NE-10) will try to snap their three-game losing streak against Merrimack Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) at the Bryant Baseball Complex.
