Bulldogs Shut Out Merrimack Again 9-0
NORTH ANDOVER, MA - Right-fielder Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass.) went 4-for-6 with three RBIs as Bryant University dealt Merrimack College a 9-0 defeat Thursday afternoon in Northeast-10 baseball action.
The win lifts the Bulldogs to 25-16 (18-7 Northeast-10) on the season.
The Bulldogs - who no-hit the Warriors through eight innings on Tuesday - jumped on senior starter Brian DeMasse for two runs in the second and four more in the sixth to build a 6-0 lead.
3B Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, RI) led off the third with a single and came around to score on a single by SS Pat McKenna (Orange, CT). 2B Dave Muscatello (Hopkinton, Mass.) reached base on a fielding error following Stone's single and scored on a double-play ball hit by C Jason Alexander (Simsbury, CT), giving Bryant a 2-0 lead after three trips to the plate.
In the fourth, 1B Mike Rocco (Tewskbury, Mass.) scored the first of the Bulldogs' four runs when he singled to open the inning and scored from second on a throwing error. Stone followed with a two-run single to plate LF T.J. Magnell (Leominster, Mass.) and Dh Mark Dondero (Medfield, Mass). Three batters later, Ferguson singled to right to plate Stone and give Bryant a 6-0 lead.
Ferguson drew a one-out walk in the eighth and scored on a single up the middle by Alexander to stretch the lead to 8-0, and Bryant tacked on two more in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Kevin Cobb (Acton, Mass.) scattered three hits in seven innings of work to pick up his fourth win of the season for the Bulldogs. He walked one and struck out two.
With a single in the eighth inning, Alexander extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
The Bulldogs will host Dominican College in a pair of doubleheaders Friday and Saturday, with first pitch on Friday at 1 p.m.
