Bulldogs Split Doubleheader with Dominican College Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant baseball team, ranked fifth in the Northeast region, split a non-conference doubleheader with regional rival Dominican College Saturday afternoon, winning 6-2 and losing 5-3.

In the first game, Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, CT) took a perfect game into the sixth inning, earning his fifth win of the season. Eric Polvani (Wallingford, CT) pitched the final 2.1 innings to pick up his second save.

The Bulldogs scored three second-inning runs as RF Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass.) continued his hot hitting, doubling home two with two outs.

Ferguson drove home two again in the sixth with a two-out single, giving him four RBIs in the game out of the lead-off spot.

2B Dave Muscatello (Hopkinton, Mass.) had three hits, while DH Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, CT) and 3B Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, RI) had two hits each.

C Jay Alexander (Simsbury, CT) was hitless in four at-bats, snapping his 14-game hitting streak.

In the second game, Chargers starter Matt Dilgen (3-1) allowed just one run in 7.1 innings, while throwing over 125 pitches.

LF Tom Maloney homered and doubled, and drove home three runs in the victory for the Chargers.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the eighth when CF Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) singled home Ferguson.

Trailing 5-1 in the ninth, Bryant got the go-ahead run on base after Ferguson doubled home McKenna and Muscatello when he lined a ball off the wall in right. Alexander then worked out a walk after a nine pitch at-bat and Campbell walked on four pitches to load the bases. The Chargers brought in Andrew Saccone to face 1B Mike Rocco (Tewksbury, Mass.) who struck out looking to end the ballgame.

Bulldog starter Brent Almeida (Fairhaven, Mass.) took the loss, falling to 4-5 on the season. He allowed four runs (three earned) in six innings, while striking out six.

The Bulldogs (25-16, 17-7 NE-10) take on Southern N.H. Tuesday in Manchester at 3:30 p.m.
