Baseball Selected to Fifth NCAA Tournament; #5 Seed in Northeast Regional

RINDGE, N.H. - After a second place finish in the Northeast-10 Tournament, the Bryant baseball team has been selected to its fifth career NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs are the fifth seed in the Northeast Region and will take on second-ranked Adelphi Thursday (2:30 pm) in Rindge, NH at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce.

Other teams in the region include #1 Franklin Pierce, #3 UMass-Lowell, #4 Caldwell, and #6 Wilmington.

Bryant will play Adelphi at 2:30 pm on Thursday, with top seed Franklin Pierce taking on Wilmington at 11 am and UMass Lowell playing Caldwell at 6 pm.  Adelphi captured the ECC Championship, earning an automatic bid, defeating C.W. Post 7-6 on Sunday.

If Bryant wins, they will play the winner of UML/Caldwell on Friday. If Bryant loses, they will play the loser of Franklin Pierce/Wilmington Friday.

Bryant defeated second-seed UMass Lowell and top-ranked Franklin Pierce last Friday and Saturday en route to a second place finish at the conference tournament.

They also took home three of the four major conference awards as Eric Loh (pitcher), Jeff Vigurs (freshman), and Jamie Pinzino (coach) all were honored after an outstanding season.

Vigurs was named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week after batting .364 (8-for-22) with two doubles and four RBI. He threw out three-of-five runners on the bases. Vigurs had four hits, two runs and drove in the game-winning run in a 5-4 14-inning victory over UMass Lowell.

The winner of the Northeast region will advance to the College World Series in Montgomery, Alabama starting on May 26.

The Northeast region bracket complete with times and dates will be available soon.
