Loh Throws Two Shutout Innings at NEIBA All-Star
Game
BOSTON, MA. - Bryant pitcher Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, CT) earned the start at the NEIBA College All-Star Game at Fenway Park Sunday and fired two scoreless innings as Loh's College Team defeated the University Team 2-0.
Bryant's All-American allowed two hits while striking out one. He did not walk a batter.
Bentley shortstop Steve Gath tripled to lead off
the sixth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tufts second baseman
Brian Casey. Wheaton College catcher Adam LaPlante then blasted a
home run into the Monster seats in the seventh for a 2-0 College
Division lead. Those were the only two College Division hits in the
game.
Seven College Division pitchers combined to shut out the University
team on four hits. Saint Joseph's pitcher Sam Tupper earned the win
and Franklin Pierce College's Tyler Bishop picked up a save. The
University team had only one runner reach third base when Brown
shortstop Matt Nuzzo led off the second with a double and moved to
third on a ground ball. Nuzzo finished with two hits and a stolen
base.
Gath was named the Player of the Game, while Brown University
pitcher Jeff Dietz was Pitcher of the Game. He started for the
University Division and pitched two 1-2-3 innings.
The College Division has now won three of the last five games in
the series, though the University team holds a 21-10-1 lead
overall.
Loh became the seventh Bulldog to be named an All-American after posting an 8-3 mark with a 1.97 earned run average in 2007. He was also honored as the ABCA/Rawlings Division II Northeast Regional Pitcher of the Year and Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Year leading the Bulldogs to a 35-24 record and a regional runner-up finish.
