BRYANT BASEBALL TRIO HELPS DIVISION II/III ALL-STARS TO 6-3 WIN OVER DIVISON I SQUAD IN NEIBA ALL-STAR GAME AT FENWAY PARK

BOSTON -- Three of the 2008 Bryant University baseball team's top players teamed up with other Division II and III all-stars from across New England on June 14 to top a University squad filled with Division I all-stars, 6-3, in the NEIBA New England College All-Star Game held at Fenway Park.

Righthanded pitcher Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and third baseman Jason Alexander (Simsbury, Conn.), both seniors in 2008, were joined by sophomore centerfielder Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) in representing the Bulldogs.

Alexander started the game at third for the College Division, playing the first three innings at third and the ninth at shortstop, and went 0-1 with a walk and a run scored.

Campbell took over centerfield duties for the Division II/III all-stars in the bottom of the fifth, playing the remainder of the game with one at bat.

Loh, Bryant's only repeat All-Star selection (Loh was the 2007 Fenway All-Star Game starting pitcher) earned a save -- the first of his collegiate career -- in this year's win, throwing two innings of no-hit baseball in the eighth and ninth to preserve the 6-3 victory. Loh walked one and struck out one.

The College Division got on the board first when Southern Connecticut junior Karl Derbacher led off the game with an opposite field home run to go up, 1-0, on the University squad.

The Division II/III all-stars added two more in the second and upped their led to 6-0 with a three-run Monster shot off the bat of Franklin Pierce's Kevin Renaud.

The Division I all-stars came back for three in the sixth, and brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but couldn't narrow the deficit as the College Division held on for the 6-3 win.

Trinity College's Mike Regan picked up the win with the University of Hartford's Chris Greiner taking the loss.

The 2008 win was the second straight and the fourth in the last six for the Division II/III all-stars, who outhit their Divison I counterparts, 7-5, in this year's contest.
