BOXSCORE

Freshman Kevin Brown went 4-for-5 with three doubles in Sunday's win over Fairleigh Dickinson.  Brown now has 18 doubles on the season, tying him for seventh all-time.

SMITHFIELD, R.I –  Kevin Brown (Northborough, Mass.) went 4-for-5 with three doubles and three runs scored as the Bryant University baseball team closed out a four-game weekend sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday with a 12-5 win.

The win was Bryant’s sixth-straight as the Bulldogs improve to 19-18 overall and 11-5 in the Northeast Conference.

For Brown, it was the fourth 4-hit game this season for the freshman.  His three doubles gives him 18 for the season, tying him with teammate Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) for seventh for doubles in a season and within six of the school record of 24 by Jeff Renga in 2002.

One day after recording his 300th career hit, Campbell was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored. The three hits also extends Campbell’s current hit streak to 10 games.

The Bulldogs wasted little time getting on the board in the first as freshman Brown led off with a single to left off starter Matt Cadigan.  Campbell would draw a two-out walk to put two runners on for Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, R.I.).  The senior second basemen would come through, belting a double to center to score both Brown and Campbell for a 2-0 lead.

Stone would pick up his third RBI of the game in the third, this time with a single to left scoring Campbell. He would finish with three hits in the game.

Fairleigh Dickinson (9-26, 4-12 NEC) would come back in the fifth, pulling to within 3-2 thanks to a two-run double past glove of a diving Campbell in centerfield.  But Bulldog starter Sal Lisanti (Bronx, N.Y.) would get out of the inning by getting Matt Holsman to fly out to right and Steven LaForge on a strikeout.

Bryant would answer in the bottom of the inning, scoring five times to take a commanding 9-2 lead.  The Bulldogs hit three doubles in the inning with Jamie Skagerlind (Holden, Mass.) and Brown each driving in a pair of runs.

In all, Bryant had eight doubles in the game and racked up 18 hits to help give Lisanti the first win of his career (1-4).  The freshman allowed three runs on six hits through 5 2/3 innings while striking out six and walking just one.

Jordan English (Windsor Locks, Conn.) had three hits at the plate as the junior right fielder was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

The victory gives this year’s senior class 129 combined victories, tying the group for the most wins by a class in school history with the class of 2004 which also won a combined 129 games.

Bryant will travel to the University of Connecticut on Tuesday before returning home to host Brown University this Wednesday (3:30 pm) for a non-conference game at the Bryant Baseball Complex.
