STORRS, Conn. – The Bryant University baseball team took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth Tuesday against 20th-ranked University of Connecticut, but the red-hot Huskies stormed back with seven runs against the Bulldog bullpen en route to a 14-6 nonconference win at J.O. Christian Field.

The Bulldogs will return home to host Wagner College for a four-game showdown for first place in the NEC this weekend starting Friday at 3 pm.

Wednesday's schedule non-conference game against Brown has been postponed until next week due to Brown's rescheduling of an Ivy game with Dartmouth.

Against UConn on Tuesday, Bryant (19-19) trailed 3-0 after one but came back to pull to within a run of the Huskies, scoring twice in the top of the second.  Zakary Cianciolo (Prospect, Conn.) laced a double down the right field line to lead off the inning and would come around to score on a Jamie Skagerlind (Holden, Mass.) down the line in right as well.

Skagerlind would advance into scoring position after a failed pickoff attempt at first and moved up 90 feet to third on a grounder to short by Tim Norton (Barnstable, Mass.).   With David Soltis (Plainville, Conn.) on first after being hit by a pitch, the Huskies again threw the ball away trying to pick off a runner at first, this time allowing Skagerlind to come home with Bryant’s second run of the game.

Bryant would push across three runs in the fifth to take its first lead of the game.  Jordan English (Windsor Locks, Conn.) drew a full-count walk to lead off the inning. After a fly out to left by Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, Conn.), Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) put runners on the corner with a single through the right side of the UConn infield.

Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, R.I.) would strikeout for the second out of the inning, but a passed ball allowed English to score to tie the game up at 3-3.

But the Bulldogs weren’t through just yet as Cianciolo, who entered the game second on the team in hitting with a .337 average, belted a triple to gap in right-center to score Campbell with the go-ahead run.

The lead wouldn’t last as the Huskies (34-7), winners of 21-straight coming into the game, stormed back with seven runs in the sixth capped by a two-run home run by the red-hot Mike Olt, who went 9-for-10 including two home runs in a doubleheader against Rutgers over the weekend.  Olt was 1-for-3 Tuesday though did score three times and drove in three as well.  UConn was led by Nick Ahmed who went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.

Cianciolo finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored while Skagerlind and Campbell also had a pair of hits.  Skagerlind also scored twice and drove in two runs.  John Michael Ryan (Worcester, Mass.) was tagged with the loss for the Bulldogs.
