POLVANI NAMED PITCHER OF THE GAME IN 2009 NEIBA COLLEGE BASEBALL ALL-STAR GAME

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University junior Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.) threw two no-hit innings and was named Pitcher of the Game as he led the University Team to an 11-0 shutout of the College Team in the 35th Annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Game Thursday night at Campanelli Stadium.

Polvani shut out the College Division in two innings of work before earning Pitcher of the Game honors, relieving starter Nick Greenwood (URI) in the third. The junior was perfect all the way, recording one strikeout with no walks while facing seven batters.

The University Team got out in front in the top of the third after Jeff Hanson (Sacred Heart) doubled and scored for a 1-0 advantage. Two home runs in the sixth by Peter Fatse (UConn) and Mickey Wiswall (BC) upped the Univesrity Division's lead to 3-0.

But in the top of the ninth, the the University side broke away, using an eight-run frame to take the 11-0 victory.

The College Team used 10 pitchers on the day while five University Team hurlers combined for the five-hit shutout.

UConn's Peter Fatse earned Player of the Game honors after going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
