Lisanti honored by NEC after CG shutout

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – For the sixth time this season, a member of the Bryant University baseball pitching staff has taken home Northeast Conference honors, as sophomore righty Salvatore Lisanti (Bronx, N.Y.) earned Akadema Pitcher of the Week distinctions announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

The Bronx native secured a NEC series victory for Bryant by spinning a three-hit 7-inning shutout of Quinnipiac in Game 3 of the four-game set.  The sophomore starter struck out three Bobcats, walked none, and faced only two batters more than the minimum.  Opponents hit only three balls in the air as the right-hander logged 13 groundball outs.

Lisanti allowed a one out single in the first inning before retiring the next 11 men to face him.  The second-year Bulldog surrendered leadoff hits in the fifth and sixth innings, but induced the ensuing batter to ground into a double play on both occasions. The 5-0 victory improved Lisanti's record to 5-3 and the righty's ERA fell to 2.97.

The Bulldogs look to wrap up the 2011 season in style with a four-game road stand in Teaneck, N.J. at Fairleigh Dickinson University. First pitch of the four-game set is slated for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, and fans can follow live stats at www.bryantbulldogs.com.
