Baseball second in New England

BULLDOGS RANKED SECOND, RECEIVE ONE FIRST-PLACE VOTE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team is ranked second in this week's New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Coaches Poll, released on Monday.

The Bulldogs (30-20) received one of six first-place votes and 17 points total to tie Connecticut for the second spot in the poll. Rhode Island received three first-place votes and 24 total points to remain the top ranked team. Holy Cross and Dartmouth were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Bryant is tied with the Crusaders for the most wins in New England and has now won 30 games in six-straight seasons. The Bulldogs team ERA of 3.22 is over a run better than any other team in the Northeast Conference and is the third-best in the Northeast. Bryant is just one of four teams that features an sub-4.00 ERA in the region.

The Bulldogs wrap up their 2012 season this weekend with a four-game series against Wagner. Bryant holds a one-game lead in the NEC standings and if they win the series with the Seahawks they are assured of at least a share of their second NEC regular-season championship in the last three years.
