Anderson (Pirates), Gavitt (A's) and Schlitter (Rockies) drafted Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – It was a historic final day of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft as junior Carl Anderson (Sudbury, Mass.) and senior Tom Gavitt (North Stonington, Conn.) and Craig Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) were all drafted giving the Bulldogs a program-record four selections over the three-day event.

After classmate Kevin McAvoy (Syracuse, N.Y.) was selected in the fourth round on Friday, Anderson became the second Bulldog drafted as he was taken in the 19th round, 581st overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates. It didn't take long for Gavitt to go as the Oakland Athletics took him with the very next pick (582nd overall). Schlitter heard his named called in the 27th round as the Colorado Rockies took him with the 803rd pick.

Bryant has now had seven players drafted in the past two seasons, including the first two juniors at the Division I level.

Anderson had another outstanding season in 2014, hitting .324 with 73 hits, 11 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 41 RBI and 49 runs scored. He also stole a Division I program record 31 bases and became the DI leader in career stolen bases along the way. Anderson finishes his career with 173 hits, 22 doubles, 106 RBI, 109 runs scored and 56 stolen bases.

Gavitt saw his draft stock rise as he put together a stellar senior campaign. Splitting time at catcher, Gavitt hit .320 with eight doubles, four triples, six home runs, 29 RBI and 31 runs scored in 41 games. He struck out just 11 times in 128 at-bats and threw out 37 percent of runners trying to steal.

One of the greatest pitchers in program history, Schlitter becomes the second Bulldog to be drafted by the Rockies (Doug Johnson- 2002). Schlitter went 10-1 with a 1.81 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 94.2 innings. He issued just 18 walks and became the first pitcher in program history to post back-to-back 10-win seasons. Schlitter finishes his career with a 28-13 record and a 2.67 ERA in 299.2 innings.
