Bulldogs host Northeastern in home opener Wednesday (3p)

GAME NOTES

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team will host its first home game of the season when Northeastern travels to Conaty Park Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

The Bulldogs (5-11) carry a three-game win streak into April against the Huskies (10-15). Bryant has won four straight and owns a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series.

Freshman Justin Snyder (Georgetown, Mass.) will make his second career start for the Bulldogs on Wednesday.  His first came against Duke in which he went four innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Led by junior Kyle Wilcox (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and freshman James Karinchak (Walden, N.Y.), the pitching staff dominated the last two games. Against Hartford, the Bulldogs only allowed two earned runs, while walking four and striking out 11 batters in two games.

In the last three games the Bulldogs have seven home runs, putting them 14th in the nation in home runs per game (1.00). The Black and Gold offense has been led by sophomore Matt Albanese (East Haddam, Conn.) who has accounted for four home runs and eight runs batted in during the win streak.  He leads the team with a .354 batting average and 23 hits on the season.  Albanese was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week as well as the Northeast Conference Player of Week for his outstanding play on the field.

Senior Jordan Mountford (Guelph, Ont.) looks to continue his hot hitting after registering two hits in each of the last two games.  Mountford went 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI in his last appearance to help the Bulldogs to a 3-2 victory.

The Huskies are led offensively by redshirt junior Michael Foster and sophomore Pat Madigan.  Foster has a team high 38 hits to go along with his .409 batting average.  Madigan is second on the team with 34 hits and a .351 average.

On the mound for the Huskies will be freshman Brian Christian. The right-hander has two starts under his belt and posts a 6.48 ERA with eight walks and four strikeouts.

Northeastern is 7-12 away from home this season and is coming off a disappointing 18-8 loss to Rhode Island on Tuesday.

Wednesday's game will be streamed live and free of charge on NECFrontRow.com.
