Team Gold takes day one of Black & Gold World Series

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Nick Angelini (Bedford, N.H.) delivered a game-winning sac fly as Gold rallied for a 10-9 victory on day one of the Black & Gold World Series on Thursday afternoon at Conaty Park.

Gold now leads the three-day world series 9-4 in skins thanks to the come-from-behind victory. The series will wrap up on Sunday morning.

The two teams split four skins during the eight innings. A skin is awarded for winning an inning.

Team Grenier (Gold) Highlights

Black was held to just three hits in the game but was able to score 10 runs thanks to 11 walks.

Junior Mickey Gasper (Merrimack, N.H.) walked and doubled, freshman Jimmy Titus (Stafford, Conn.) singled and walked and Zane Smith (Ilion, N.Y.) singled and walked twice.

Junior Jack Patterson (Suffield, Conn.) started for Black and allowed just two runs (one earned) over four innings. He allowed four hits, struck out four and didn't walk a batter.

Ryan Johnson (East Falmouth, Mass.) and Matt Knych (Manville, R.I.) each worked two innings.

Team Pettoruto (Black) Highlights

Cole Fabio (Mahwah, N.J.) hit a leadoff home run and finished with four hits, two runs scored and two RBI.

James Ciliento (Mahwah, N.J.) added three singles and scored twice.

Ryan Ward (Grafton, Mass.), Gaby Cruz (Miami, Fla.) and Joe Paparelli (Preston, Conn.) all collected doubles.

Vito Morgese (Warwick, N.Y.) started and pitched four scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits, walked three and struck out one.

Logan Lessard (Cromwell, Conn.) allowed an unearned run on no hits over two innings of relief.
