Karinchak earns Preseason All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball junior James Karinchak (Walden, N.Y.) has been named to the Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-American Team, announced Monday by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Karinchak becomes the first player in Division I program history to earn preseason All-American honors. He was named to the second team and is the only player from the Northeast Conference, and one of only two from New England, to be listed.

Monday's honor adds to a long list of accolades for the third-year hurler as he earned Second Team All-American honors from the ABCA, Louisville Slugger and Perfect Game last spring. Karinchak also boasts NEC Rookie of the Year honors and is the reigning NEC Pitcher of the Year after putting together one of greatest seasons for a pitcher in program history in 2016. He won a program-record 12 games and struck out a program-record 112 batters in 94 2/3 innings.

In two seasons, Karinchak has posted a 20-8 record and a 2.56 ERA in 172 1/3 innings. He is just the eighth pitcher in school history to record 20+ wins in a career and he currently ranks fourth all-time in ERA and eighth in strikeouts.
