Karinchak named a National Player of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior James Karinchak (Walden, N.Y.) has been named a National Player of the Week by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, it was announced on Monday.

It is the second national player of the week honor for Karinchak in his career. He was dominant in his first start of the year, allowing just one run on two hits, while striking out 12 over five innings. It is the second time in his career that Karinchak has struck out 10+ batters in a five-inning start.

Karinchak opened the game by striking out the first four batters of the game and each of the first six outs came via a strikeout. He fanned back-to-back batters to strand runners on second and third in the bottom of the second. Karinchak went on to strike out two more in the third and closed his outing by striking out the side in the fifth. He threw 50 of his 82 pitches for strikes and had 16 swing and misses on the day.
